G-Tech is now at the Henry’s Imaging Show

MS2_7367

First and foremost, I am a self-proclaimed nerd. I like technology and there's really no other way to say it. What's more, I love external hard drives. As a data fiend, I have an external for pretty much everything I do. One for photos, one for video, one for music. I also have a couple others for random documents and storage overflow. Of all of the hard drives I have though, there is none that is more near and dear to my heart than the G-Safe 1TB.

Olympus and the new XZ-1

MS2_7350 - Version 2

Jeremy from the Olympus booth at the Henry's Photographic, Video, and Digital Imaging show kindly took some time to talk to me about the all new Olympus XZ-1. The first thing I want to say about it is F/1.8.

Live from the Henry’s Show!

MS2_7340

So here I am, standing in the middle of a crowded aisle at the Henry's Photographic, Video, and Digital Imaging Show. This is twice-yearly show Toronto area show put on by Henry's Cameras, a photographic retailer with over 30 locations in central Canada. Exhibitors from pretty much all of the major camera, accessory, and photography/video related brands have their own booths where you can see, touch, try their products and interrogate politely ask questions from their representatives.

Behind the Scenes – Before the Shoot

MS2_7112

Do you know what happens when you put together two musicians and three photographers? Yeah, I don't either, but I'm pretty sure we came close on Monday night. Most behind the scenes blog posts will show you the final product first, but I want to reverse things a little bit. In this post, we'll look at the setup first for a quick and dirty musician photoshoot done in a basement parking garage.

Liz & Andrew

DSC_6884

A friend asked me to second shoot for the wedding of Liz and Andrew in October of last year. I'm glad I accepted. Not only were they an amazingly kind and gentle couple, but they couldn't have picked a better location for their special day. Avid skiers and members of the Devil's Glen Country Club in Glen Huron, Ontario (about halfway between Toronto and Collingwood), the venue made for the perfect scenic spot. The tell-tale colours of  autumn leaves, just about to drop - much like the temperature at this time of year - complimented Liz's warm, gentle smile and Andrew's genuine and contagious laugh. I had a hell of a good time (hell... get it.. Devil's Glen... ah, maybe next time) with them, and certainly wish them all the best for their future.

Gear wise, this was a fun wedding for me to shoot. The colours and scenery inspired me to shoot with the 35mm F/1.8 from Nikon. It is a DX lens, so when used on an FX body, such as my D700, it crops around the corners. The intensity of the crop increases as the aperture decreases, so for some of those outdoors shots, I stopped nearly all the way down and got those nice hard vignettes around the edges (which you'll see in the first photo).

Manfrotto’s Bag Launch at Pikto Studio

MS1_6970 - Version 2

On Wednesday night I attended the Manfrotto bag launch party at the Pikto Studio in downtown Toronto's distillery district. As one of the first 50 to arrive, I even received a free gift from the organizers. Drinks were plenty, and food was delicious, but the real guests of honour were the bags themselves.

If I Had Allergies, I’d Use Claritin

There's a whole bunch of talk about social media lately. Everywhere I go, its 'tweet this' and 'like that'. Honestly, I don't mind. As a self proclaimed social media maniac, I endorse social media in pretty much everything in my daily life.

...And if it were possible for me to 'check in' to a massive advertisement in the sky, I'd definitely do that too.

Lowepro Announces the StreamLine 100

Streamline100_Family415w

Small and compact mirror-less cameras such as Sony's NEX series, the Olympus PEN models. and the Panasonic Lumix micro-4/3 compatible cameras have a lot of popularity recently, due mainly to their compact size and ever-improving image quality. They've become a great choice for first time camera buyers, advanced amateur, or even the professional photographer who wants something more portable.

Portability, of course, is nothing without storage. Lowepro yesterday announced a new bag called the StreamLine 100 that gives you somewhere to put your compact camera. Hit the jump for more...

Genevieve & Nathan

MS2_7305 - Version 2

Last fall, I had the great opportunity to begin shooting with an established studio by the name of StudioStudios. With several locations in and around the Greater Toronto Area, they're a wedding photography and video company that offers great packages, great prices, and great results. In October, I assisted on the wedding of Genevieve and Nathan, a very enjoyable young couple who I can just tell have a great future ahead of them. It was so much fun to shoot, and I'm so very happy to share some photos of their wedding. This will also be the first of many wedding related posts to go up, as the wedding season for this year is almost in full swing.
